It’s terrifying though. Don’t these people worry what will happen when their parents die? Even if the house is paid off, you still have a lot of monthly expenses.
This is why there's a homelessness epidemic
OTOH, a paid off house is all you need for basic subsistence. If you only have to pay property taxes, insurance, and maintenance, getting a couple of roommates would cover that plus something left over for food and other essentials each month. Not a glamorous existence, but it will keep you off the street.
Remember, every home is a potential revenue stream for its owner.
No alternative than to keep looking for a job. At least evictions take months to years to complete. They're lucky that they have parents to live with currently.

and if you can't afford the property, you sell it, and live off that money with which you can downsize or rent.
Or the parents are in terrible debt too, or they need to go to a nursing home so you sell the assets they have to cover the costs until they're exhausted. For many there's nothing to inherit.
yeah, so those people better get jobs and start saving.
