Liminal spaces are the subject of an Internet aesthetic portraying empty or abandoned places that appear eerie, forlorn, and often surreal. Liminal spaces are commonly places of transition (pertaining to the concept of liminality) or of nostalgic appeal.

bullshit. No business just leaves a giant open empty space under it.
Which airport is it, and is it just being built?
Frankfurt International Airport Terminal 2. Not being built, but this was a few weeks before it was shut down for renovations. Most airlines had already left so there were very few people around.
I'm not sure what, if anything, this space was actually used for though. Just a huge, seemingly pointless empty space next to the parking garages with some public toilets. No trace of any shops or anything having existed there.
I used to know that airport like the back of my hand. That was like 7 years ago though. Knew where all of the empty bathrooms and lounging areas were. I kind of miss it in a sick way.
Thought it looked familiar... I hate that place so much
Yup, I recognized this space immediately- Frankfurt Airport…been this way for a few years now. Oddly empty and quiet every time I’m there despite how busy and chaotic the main areas are. The bathrooms there are nice…also empty and quiet!
