Ah so the old machines weren't working properly before the move. Gotcha. In my experience Mint has been good at using its defaults to get WIFI working. Hell I probably would have skipped over dealing with the track pad and just plugged a mouse in and let Mint fix that part after. I have been running into the problem that all those mice laying around are USB A, and laptops now seem to have moved completely away from adding one.
