People generally think the good times are over and things always used to be better in the good old days. It is part of the human condition.
The final reckoning, the threat of nuclear war, the millennium bug, some ancient calendar ending, COVID and many more. There's always a next global catastrophy coming our way. It's ok, it will either happen or not or something in between. Or something entirely different that we didn't see coming.
It's going to be climate collapse and resource depletion over the next 25 to 30 years. Click the spoiler for some of the ways this will happen. There are other factors at play too but imo these are the main ones.

The latest CFSv2 model runs now show the Nino 3.4 SST anomaly forecast peaking at 4.10°C in November.
The arctic sea ice extent is declining rapidly and we're likely headed into a Blue Ocean Event later this year, and potentially a double BOE depending on how the El Nino and summer in the southern hemisphere go.
June 2026 came in as the second warmest on record since 1940 at 1.39°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, second only to 2024 at 1.50°C above the baseline
The world is likely to exceed a key global warming target soon but the earths alebedo with the declining sea ice and lack of cloud cover will impact these numbers massively and isn't being predicted for, which means that 4.5c above the baseline by 2060 is now possible.
I know I keep fucking posting this in comments around the fediverse but it needs to be seen by as many people as possible because this is fucking happening and most people still have no idea and think everything will be ok.
You're absolutely right that this is definitely a cause for concern and it is different than other times where there was a fear of the world ending. It was not my intention to undermine the seriousness of the situation.
I don't think, however, that the message of "the world is definitely going to end" is helpful. The message should be "this is what we can do to save it". We should be hopeful, but not complacent.

Unless you're some kind of god wizard capable of rewriting the laws of physics, there is nothing we can do. Go read some of those links and look some of this stuff up for yourself if you don't believe me.
That's not true, or my partner wouldn't do climate resilience work if she actually thought it was futile.
Does she actually know how bad things are?
Like does she know we're over capacity on fresh water and running out of top soil? Does she know what a Blue Ocean Event is? Does she actually understand how fucking world ending +3c is going to be and how soon we're likly to hit it?
Because no offense but anyone actually working in this industry who isn't fucking morose and out of hope...
Like is she doing low level volunteering or something? Because otherwise she really doesn't understand what's going on.
She's a professor who works in the climate change space, hence why I said resilience.
I guess I am a god wizard then because I know me doing my part makes some difference however miniscule and insignificant it is.
Of course we cannot stop a climate disaster. But there's grey in between your black and white scenarios. Even if it's a dark dark grey. It doesn't have to be vantablack. There is no denying whatever laws of physics come into play, it will be worse when we do absolutely fuck all because everything is fucked anyway than if we do our best to make the disaster less bad. Please let's keep the motivation and the hopes up to at least try.
My point is that exactly your attitude in which everything is lost anyway is not helping anything.
Now go outside and get some fresh air while it's still fresh.
Most people won't even go vegan, that's like the bare minimum anyone could do that would actually have an impact, and most people won't do it.
Your optimism is not going to rewrite physics or change human nature. Go do whatever you think you need to do to make things better though, by all means, just don't lie to people about the unfixable apocalypse we're heading into or get shitty with them if they're rightfully adopting a bleak outlook.

I'm not lying, I'm not even denying there will be disaster. But there is a difference between disaster, global catastrophy and an actual apocalypse. Did you get the part about the black and white? Your links do not say "100% certainty of unfixable total apocalypse".
So no need to accuse me of lying, denying science or being able to change human nature. I am recognising human nature. Your attitude is making things worse by taking away hope, as it will lead to inaction; denying this is denying human nature.
And as for the acting shitty: you started it. Of course it's good to share info, but it can do without your attitude. It takes away of what you're trying to accomplish, which is just a shame because I really think we're on the same page in the end.
Maybe we got off on the wrong foot here as I did not even interpret this meme as being about climate change only. There's no buildings in the bottom picture so I interpreted it as being about war.

There was a report stating that world CO2 levels will likely become toxic for humans in another 40 to 50 years too. Our demand for burning fossil fuels will doom us all.
We've never dealt woth wide spread climate change like this before. Pretending like this is the same as the other stuff is disingenuous.
To me this meme was not clearly about climate change. Just a vision of the future. There's no buildings left in the bottom picture. I thought it was about wars and destruction or whatever
