No, 2012 was under a glacier and the magna hitting ice caused it to explode in dust. I think the term is tephra. This is from the last few years where there has been a series of eruptions right next to the international airport in Keflavík.

I think that you may be referring to the flight disruption caused by this eruption (although it's 2010, not 2012) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_travel_disruption_after_the_2010_Eyjafjallaj%C3%B6kull_eruption

And I suspect that they mean the apocalyptic movie named "2012"!

Ah yes. And with the Grímsvötn eruption in 2011 and Holuhraun in 2014 I got confused about the years. What even was Iceland doing in 2012, right?
