I didn't take this seriously, it's just confusing that this caused people to actually lose their minds. There's no rage to be felt about this as all I feel is absolutely confused this passes for something to feel outrage over. ROFL It's just weird to me that they never saw a woman up close, and knew that peach fuzz is a thing women have on their faces. I did call them names, but, incel does seem fitting in this case. More than ever.

I think they’re saying that the OP’s OP’s OP was rage bait, i.e. the guy pretending not to know people have fine hair everywhere was just trolling.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] starik@lemmy.today 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Maybe. It’s impossible to know. If it is rage bait, it definitely worked.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There were very real tantrums about this. Look at the reaction to the new God of War.

Pretending like incels don’t whine about the “integrity of their games” and “woke bullshit” is silly.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 0 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I know. Just saying it’s not clear in this instance. It seems almost too ridiculous to be real, but it could be.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Even if that particular post was for some reason not real, that was a very common complaint about Ally’s design.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 1 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Bizarre. Even from their perspective, they should like it, because it makes her look more real.

[–] jtrek@startrek.website 2 points 1 week ago

Incels don't typically like real women. They live in a fantasy/nightmare world.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

These are the types of guys that prefer women completely hairless I’d wager.

That and they haven’t been around enough women in real life to realize that women are also covered in hair just like men.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

These people goon to stellar blade. Velma is right though, basically any gaming sub was full of perpetual virgins bitching about ugly man Aloy. And holy shit when the dlc came out and Aloy is gay? They lost their shit.

[–] starik@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Spoilers! I haven’t played Forbidden West yet. 😖

It’s ok, I already assumed she was gay. She wasn’t interested in any of the guys, and she had chemistry with that Oseram woman who made the grenade launcher.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

It's not a plot point, Aloy just meets a girl in the dlc and is so obviously adorably flustered, and clearly has no idea how to flirt. It wasn't even like a properly implemented romance. But boy howdy were the chuds upset.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure he's being cheeky and trying to meta rage bait with his comment.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's his whole schtick on Lemmy.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Hahah yeah. You should read his recent comment where he claims he dated Zoe Quin. This guy's character is really honed in lol

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

He's literally the guy in the meme.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

i also think it's funny how enraged people are you suggest it's rage bait.

because clearly this is some huge problem, instead of stupid internet flaming bullshit.

but ragebait works. people love being angry over stupid bullshit and projecting their angst at imaginary chuds that likely don't really exist.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No one is mad you're calling it rage bait, though what you're doing is rage baiting as well since if you were around the internet when that game released you know full well all the gamergate chuds lost their fucking minds. Fuckin dweebs are always so loud. Anyway yeah this was actual discourse for a month or two, not just assholes ragebaiting.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

My interpretation of gamergate, which I was there watching it happen live, was very very different than the popular narrative about it.

But hey, what do I know, I only lived through it. I didn't read about it through a bunch of idiot mainstream journalists who only focused on the 'evil men vs innocent women' narrative to score the post clicks.

A lot of the 'harassment' that the key female figures received, never had any evidence. I also knew Zoey Quin, I went out with her on a date in 2011. She was an absolute nutcase, probably had BPD or something. Her grasp on reality was very tenuous before gamergate, so I doubt anything she said about those event was remotely truthful. And I'm sure her boyfriend there was also equally mentally ill.

But sure, tell me how I'm rage baiting or something. Despite me having personally known at least one of the people involved. And I also was friends with a person who was friends with Anita in SF, who also told me she was an absolute nutcase of a person. And my friend's husband, who was also a figure in gamergate, though minor, was an another absolute psycho. She divorced him two years later because of his physical and mental abuse of her. He also went on and on about 'harassment' and 'abuse' when his shitty games got bad reviews. He, like Anita, Zoey, and all the rest, were trust fund babies who engaged in all sorts of abuse, manipulation, and lying about who they were and their finances. My friends husband had all his millions in offshore accounts, and would post to social media about how he was struggling to get idiots to give money for his 'art'.

Notice how now these figures all gave up on gaming, and go around being professional victims? Getting paid 1000s to talk about their 'trauma' and how horrible and awful gaming culture is? Yeah, that's just more grift. It was never about games. It was abotu them creating a narrative by which they could con people into giving them money for playing a imaginary role.

And lots of social media/influencer figures out there are like this. They make up fake drama that has no factual or evidential basis, never appears in court, and milk their fans for huge sums of money. It happens again and again, and people like you eat it up, because you love this notion that these are poor innocent helpless people being abused by these evil faceless masses of harassment. It's manipulation through and through.

but hey, what do i know, right, i'm clearly just another evil chud right? it can't possibly be that gamergate was just a lot of shitheads being shitheads, and faking everything so they could score cash and fame from the ignorant public... people never ever do that, right? that's not... a proven business model we've seen replicated again and again.

and reporters ate it up, despite having no sourced evidence other than the hearsay of the participants. I remember another local figure who lived in my city, who reported all this harassment, opened a police report, and it was shut down because the police found no evidence and she would provide none of this so called harassment. And what she do? claim it was police ignorance/misogyny, and her fans ate it up and her donations piled up... and her game she was working on... all the sudden development stopped and she dissipated from the gaming/public scene entirely. weird how her 'art' she 'struggled' for no longer matter one she had a few 100K in donations, oh and she fired the two people working for her.

and clearly I'm just lying and making this all up right? the level of detail is just my imagination, not my lived experience and memory.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh holy shit you're literally a gamergater. Fuckin, and you just admit that to people? You're literally the guy in the fuckin meme, holy shit.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

yeah, it was me all along. I did gamergate. the entire thing. and yeah I openly admit it to everyone, and they congratulate me on my genius. I am Zoey Quinn and her boyfriend, and all the journalists, reporters, and police sergeants invovled we're all the same person.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do you also know QAnon? Are you a flat-earther? Religious young earth creationist? Ancient alien conspiracist? Jordan Peterson/Joe Rogan follower? MAGA?

I'm trying to see how much overlap there is in my venn diagram of dumbfuckery.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Oh, no. I lived in Berlin studying German for a year, which makes me a Nazi who workships Hitler right?

Because what upstanding person would ever learn German if they weren't a nazi? I mean, Nazis spoke German, so clearly anyone who speaks it is a Nazi too.

Because you know, learning a second language is only what dumbfucks do. Smart people know English is the only real language good people can ever speak.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Gamergate was literally manufactured by Steve Bannon and is part of the Epstein emails. You're absolutely an idiot if you buy into any of it, and you're unhinged for lying about knowing personally all the key players, very conveniently I might add. Basically you're entirely full of shit.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Right, it's me that's the conspiracy theorist though. Not you. You're very smart and it's all Steve Bannon. He even paid Zoey Quinn to make that game, and all the journalists involved.

Was he also bankrolling Bryanna Wu? I'm sure you have hard evidence of all of this. Because you're very smart, and I am very dumb and a liar.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're fuckin unhinged kid. I don't think women are safe around you.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah a lot of very mentally unwell folks tell me that. Then they turn out to be people who SA women, and men. Funny how that works.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Holy projection Batman. Buddy you're on here spouting thoroughly debunked alt right bullshit. Get the fuck outta here.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

why, i'm having a good time? aren't you?

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You're having fun being a sexist piece of shit? Yeah, that tracks actually.

[–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago

no i'm having fun watching you call me names and make up stories about me and tell me i'm a conspiracy theorist while you cite conspiracy theories as evidence of your claims.

popcorn is hot and tasty. keep telling me how bad I am, and how smart you are. I'm almost there.

The similarities between Gamergate and the far-right online movement, the “alt-right”, are huge, startling and in no way a coincidence. After all, the culture war that began in games now has a senior representative in The White House. As a founder member and former executive chair of Brietbart News, Steve Bannon had a hand in creating media monster Milo Yiannopoulos, who built his fame and Twitter following by supporting and cheerleading Gamergate. This hashtag was the canary in the coalmine, and we ignored it.

Brianna Wu was one of women targeted for abuse and death threats. Photograph: Boston Globe/Boston Globe via Getty Images Lest we forget, Gamergate was an online movement that effectively began because a man wanted to punish his ex girlfriend. Its most notable achievement was harassing a large number of progressive figures - mostly women – to the point where they felt unsafe or considered leaving the industry. Game developer Zoe Quinn was the original target. Anita Sarkeesian’s videos applying basic feminist theory to video games had already made her a target (because so many people have a difficulty differentiating cultural criticism from censorship) but this hate was powerfully amplified by Gamergate – leading to death threats, rape threats, and the public leaking of personal information. Other notable targets included developer Brianna Wu, actor Felicia Day, and prominent tech-culture writer Leigh Alexander, whose provocative article on the tyranny of “game culture” offered stark warnings that still resonate powerfully: “When you decline to create or to curate a culture in your spaces, you’re responsible for what spawns in the vacuum.”

This is well documented. Why don't you put aside your biases for a moment and actually read into it?

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Considering that gamergate was literally used to bolster the alt-right movement and get young men to support fascism, your comparison to Nazi Germany is pretty apt hahaha

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

You're Steve Bannon, too?! Wow. Really honing that gamer gate controversy to rally large swaths of men into the alt-right pipeline.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't believe a single word of this comment, but especially that you went on a date with Zoey Quin.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I bet he went to high school with QAnon.
