Why do people stop them?
Outside of when you're actually cooking they're not harming anyone as long as you clean the counters before you cook.
They walk on their own shit in their litter boxes. Why would anyone want that on their counters?
They also walk all over the rest of your house?
Why are the counters any different?
Like I said earlier, as long as you clean the counters before you cook then it's fine.
I don't cook or eat on the other surfaces in my house. Other than the kitchen table, which the cat also is not allowed on. Who wants to completely clean and disinfect their counters every single time they cook? I cook several times a day, that's a major pain in the ass.
You should be cleaning your counters every single time you cook, both before and after.
Why would I waste time by cleaning an already cleaned surface? I clean it after I finish cooking.
Edit: You seriously disinfect and clean your counters twice every single time you cook? What do you only cook like one meal a week or something? You're suggesting I clean and disinfect my counters literally twice as much when the cat can just be trained to not go on the counters. One seems like much less effort than the other to me.
Appart from the fact I have knifes and other stuff they could be knocked over, the counter is also right next the cooktop. The kichen counter is off limits, last thing I want is my cats getting hurt.
You shouldn't be leaving any of that out unattended.
Dude, do you even have cats? Of course I don't, all it takes is turning your back a few seconds for disaster to happen. You still need to train your cats regardless.
Two.
They're both very well behaved. They don't interrupt when I'm cooking but when I'm not they're allowed to do as they please.
Bingo, you did teach them to not do stuff that can get them hurt. That is the whole point. Of course you don't leave the kitchen unattended but you don't rely on just that.
The point was they're allowed on the counters most of the time.
