The arrests of the online influencers known for their misogynistic views come after years of investigations in Britain and Romania. The new charges concern offenses dating back to 2010, officials said.

I don't think it was that long, but at least Andrew had been in prison in Romania already. Complaining how he's a victim of communist state violence etc. Not sure why they got out, but I'm glad the UK is picking up the ball.

It's not like these guys are going to stop to abuse women (and brag about it online) otherwise.

They got out because the US "leaned" on Romania to release them.

In February 2025, according to the Financial Times, Richard Grenell played a key role in securing the release of Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, two influencers prosecuted in Romania on charges of rape and human trafficking. He discussed the matter with Romanian foreign minister Emil Hurezeanu at the 61st Munich Security Conference. Grenell denied any pressure on the Romanian government.

...but the problem is they do stop to abuse women. That's what the arrests are for.
