I wouldn't be at all surprised if Russia did have larger linux adoption. It's not unheard of for countries to be (in my opinion baselessly) suspicious that microsoft contains american spyware.

They surely do, but none of the Russians or Ukrainians I know have ever heard of Linux.

looking into it there is a russian version of linux that is widely used by the Russian government and it's trying to push wider civilian adoption

Most of it is in Asia but I agree, should have phrased that better. European Union is what I meant :)
