Water softener sat for 6 months to a year. should it be ok to just add salt to it? (lemmy.world)

Unsure if the resin is bad or if it needs to be fully replaced.

Add bag of salt, 1/3 bottle of softener cleaner, and do an immediate regen, cross your fingers, and try out your hopefully softened water.

Random question, are you supposed to regen anytime you add salt? I put in 80 lbs ever 3 months

No, the softener regens every few days depending on water usage.

Mine regens 1-2 times a month but it’s only my wife and I and my plumber said that was normal so hopefully that’s ok. I inherited this system so not really sure about maintenance
