In the US a lot of offices set the thermostat for men to be comfortable in suits and women typically run colder and wear clothes that are less warm because they’re considered more professional for some reason. I had to use a heater and blanket every day when I used to go in to the office. My hands were always cold and going to meetings was miserable. It’s not fun to always be cold. Why can’t people who are too warm take their jacket off or wear shorts?

I'm a suit wearing man. This is incorrect. It's set for fat people while us skinnys freeze. The rationale is that we can add layers.

[–] pleb_maximus@piefed.zip 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nah, am fat, colleagues are rather skinny (one of those colleagues is a woman, so I think we have pretty much every group discussed here covered) and we are all happy. We set the thermostat to 22°C, and while the AC doesn't quite reach it, it is still about 24°C in the room while it's 38°C outside today. And we're all happy in there, dreading to have to go out of the office.

That does seem like a pretty reasonable temperature range. I would be content with that.

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fair point. That also contributes.

Why do office workers have to wear suits anyways?

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Good question. I find them uncomfortable and expensive. Why do you need a separate wardrobe to go sit in an office?

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Because hentai print shirts are too hard to clean for daily wear to be practical. Material science just isn't there yet.

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Have any pictures of your weekend wardrobe? Now I’m curious xD

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

No, but I'm currently wearing a tasteful monotone hentai print evening dress with bukakke themed lace panels and matching veil.

I do not. It fits very badly.

How else will they show status? Lower class black people already claimed the aesthetics of jewelry that looks good with masculine presentation, so they can't do that.

[–] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I dunno, apply face paint like in the stone age or smth.

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But that's what women do! You can't ask men to do that!

I tried that once. The antibiotics nearly killed me and it still itches.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

probably a combination of control and to give the suit industry business

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh, so you think an entire half of the population should change the way they dress to make you more comfortable?

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It makes no sense to push for either half of workers to be uncomfortable. I’m more in favor of meeting the thermostat in the middle and relax clothing requirements so everyone can find the right compromise. It’s about workers vs. billionaires and the right to work in decent conditions.

[–] ironycanal@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Right. Half the workers should change Tue way they dress to make YOU more comfortable with what they're wearing. It's fine.

[–] Jessicat@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I work from home and control my own thermostat so I’m good thanks. Are you really into suits or something? I don’t really know anyone who would be upset about relaxing the dress code for comfort. In fact I don’t know a single man who likes to wear suits, they’re usually envious of the fact that women have more latitude in professional dress options.
