Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

Juneteenth is a U.S. holiday commemorating black emanicipation and power that originates from Galveston, Texas, where, on this day in 1865, Union General Gordon Granger proclaimed all slaves in Texas, more than 250,000 people, to be free.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of slave abolition in the United States.

Weird encounter today.

We had a spot reserved at the game club and this one asshat decided to book the same space at the same time, make an announcement, and just showed up without checking if the space was available. Whatever, no biggie since our group was small and all of us are vaxxed so we can share the space. Was just kinda rude of this guy to make promises to other people then just assume he could waltz in.

Anywho, we're all doing our thing and chatting and AK Interactive comes up. It gets mentioned none of the shops in our area carry their products because of tariffs. But then asshat says "Yeah that and they made the internet mad over nothing, just SJWs being terminally online."

"Wait wait wait....that AK Interactive?" I am now remembering. "The one with the concentration camp diorama kit?"

For those of you who don't know, AK specializes in historical modeling kits. Example: if you want Napoleon's army's uniform color, they have a paint that matches those specifically. A few years ago, they launched a WWII German line of products. And they thought, in addition to tank and soldier models, it'd be a good idea to release a concentration camp diorama. No, the proceeds were not going to any Holocaust memorials or museums. They were catering to neo-nazis so they could live out their fantasies with toys.

"Yeah no, that was a pretty serious fuckup. Thanks for reminding us to not buy their products." Asshat changes the subject to music. He's going to a punk rock show later and decided he'd dress in a suit for the occasion.

"I like the music, but my only problem is the space is infested with leftists nowadays."

We give this guy deathglares. Motherfucker, you're in a leftist gaming club right now. It was already suspect with the way you were arguing for "historically accurate concentration camps." One of my buddies with more patience than myself pipes up "Let's let him explain. We don't have to jump down his throat, maybe we can use this as a learning moment."

"Gommunism is when the government does stuff, and the more stuff it does, the more gommunist it is. This is why I'm a libertarian, because I don't think people should tell others what to do. I don't like democrats or republicans."

Wow holy shit, I thought these guys all became mask-off Trump supporting fascists in 2016. I guess not because we have a live libertaryan with us right now. At this point, asshat is visibly flustered as he starts to realize he's alone in a room without a camera surrounded by honest-to-God Marxists and anarchists. He changes the subject again (despite being the one who kept bringing up politics), wraps up his game with two other people, and leaves "I have to go pick up my girlfriend."

The kicker? This dude is darker and browner than I am. Like the only reason he didn't get the shit beaten out of him is because he's obviously a very confused libshit whose class interests have made him right wing (he's obviously some kind of techbro crypto grifter or whatever the fuck because he mentions he has a job in a nearby tech town).

I'm just screaming in my head "Why do you think pandering to white people will save you? You're at more of a risk of getting stopped by ICE on the way here than myself and I'm fucking terrified of getting stopped by ICE anytime I step outside."

He didn't mention his ethnicity but be shur as shit wasn't white or white passing. Like how did he arrive at Ron Paul libertarianism? Did he not see the part about the newsletters or wanting to repeal the Civil Rights Act?

I doubt we'll see him again.

scared I only know as much as you on that
