Arguably that's what began this whole debacle.

Narcissism has a lot of root causes, but "never being good enough for Dad" is a pretty common one.

I remember during the comedy roast of Trump, Seth McFarlane began with something like: "We're here to honor a great man and businessman (pause) that would be Fred Trump, Donald Trump's father".

He looked like he wanted to kill him, and then announced a presidential run for 2016 at the end of the show/episode.
