I'm okay with it when it's not punching down.

There was a wealthy lifestyle guru who made rounds on Bluesky a year or so ago. His whole shtick was showing off his "daily routine" and linking this to his "success" and became an instant lolcow for a video he made. Just about every frame there was something ridiculous to pick apart from breaking up a banana to eat it piece by piece instead of eating it normally and then rubbing the peel on his face, to jumping in the pool after exercising without taking a shower first, to needing his girl to make him breakfast and cut his food for him, to doing laps in a pool that wasn't made for laps, to inconsistent time stamps (jumps off a diving board but doesn't land in the pool until 3 minutes later), to a very obviously fake scene where he was allegedly trading stocks and calling this "work", to running on a treadmill so fast and aggressively that it wasn't stamina efficient and looked more like he was running away from a bear than actually exercising, among many other moments meant to make him look more impressive than he was.

The whole video was basically him saying if you live like him you can be as successful as he is. It was very obviously nonsense; that wasn't his daily routine, he did not live his life like that. It was just a complete performance meant to con people and he got ruthlessly ratio'd across the site for it. That, in my view, is what a lolcow should be. Mocking people with disabilities is just bullying.

i get this, but usually the victims of becoming lolcows are the people that are either: 1.sufferers of a mental illness or are seen as generally "weird" or "unusual" by the internet 2. financially dependent on being lolcows, and thus have to purpetuate their own humiliation to make end's meat. The victims are usually people that cannot afford to defend themselves, or are unable to understand that they are being bullied and harassed

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm not down with that kind of harassment.

The specific example I used was a guy who clearly had money and privilege already and was some kind of lifestyle influencer and was being mocked for his insincerity/grift. That I'm okay with because people like that deserve scorn, not disabled/ill people who need help and empathy.

oh oki then i understand ^^ ty

yeah i have no problem with the bourgeoisie getting bullied.

another issue though is that many lolcows become quite well off due to the ridicule they face online and their audience uses this as an excuse to further bully them when they are nowhere near that class

Yeah, nah, that I don't fuck with. Them making money of their ridicule is totally different from them being well-off & privileged from the start.
