It sounds to me like you've made a choice somewhere in your 4 decades to not seek out music that's new or popular. Maybe you have niche tastes or something, your reasons are your own. If you are happy with the music you listen to then you've made the right decision for you. In that case though, this list should not surprise you.
Not exactly niche tastes for sure. I enjoy listening to almost any genre (seriously, even country). But the rapid commercialization and repetitiveness of most modern music (in any genre) is really off-putting. I do listen to current music but while it's not super niche, it'd also never end up on a list like this.
I'm not one of those people who only listens to indie bands and thinks I'm superior. Last week I listened to everything Pink Floyd ever released. :D The week before that it was all swedish power metal.
