I feel I should say something profound and witty about this.
But really I find the course this country is on depressing. Democracy is slipping away and at every turn I keep thinking even the republicans have to admit it's gone too far, but no, they are okay with it.
I know that historically we have done some really evil things, but I'd thought we were past that.
I keep thinking of a clip I saw of musk saying how empathy was a sickness.
We are a country full of monsters pretending to be human.
The whole point of "Never Forget" was to remind us that we can never be passed that. The Nazis weren't monsters, they were human beings. Human beings are capable of incredible atrocities, and we need to constantly remind ourselves of that. Make it the foundation of our whole society. But unfortunately the average person in unable to see past their own lifetime, and therefore sees no point in doing anything that could affect real change for future generations.
Why? At what point was the US not doing horrible things?
That's because they are fascists. There is no end game with fascism. It's a mad dash for more and more control until the situation implodes in upon itself.
Republicans are fascists. By definition.
