I'm sorry if this breaks a rule for this sub or isn't in the right place.

I really don't know, most of the time I just lurk. I had an alt on Hexbear because they get defederated all the time, and I really enjoy their content, but it got banned because I called out Nazi propaganda about Ukraine(It's why I was banned. I'm not trying to talk politics I would like to focus on Lemmy), and I'm just very confused. The rules they referenced for the ban seem to barely apply to what I said, and in general, the server seemed like a cool place to be. I definitely felt like I was in a community where I belonged.

I'm just boggled and could really use some hand-holding on this one. In general, the rules of the Lemmyverse confuse me. I want to see everything, but the places I like most are usually defederated from the larger communities.

If this isn't right please please, just point me to where I can ask. Thanks!

What is the purpose of trawling Lemmy instances, whom we don’t even federate with, for their bad takes? Not trying to grandstand or protect the honor of a comm for slop, but this is just as much .world living in Hexbear’s head rent-free.

Discussing slop can be useful when it’s commentating on this or that public figure. But this is this equivalent of digging up some dude’s conspiracy blog with 7 active readers.

When Candace Owens says something reactionary, at least it’s a notable person saying something to a large audience, and attaching their own identity to it. Anonymous lemmy posts have a reasonable chance of being literally an AI bot farm managed by one person. It doesn’t feel relevant to anything at all that an anonymous person made a reactionary post in the Fediverse.

Some folks just like to follow drama. Hexbear has split petty forum drama and notable person drama between Slop and El Chisme, so you can always block the former if it's not your vibe

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 6 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

I always forget El Chisme exists because I have no idea what that name means lol, but that’s a good idea thank you

Edit: El Chisme was merged with Slop 6 months ago

For those of us who enjoy this content where should it go?

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 3 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I would just create an account on that instance and fight with them over there. I am likely misinformed about the purpose of this sub though, so Ill just block it probably

It's the leftist version of lolcowing and fixer syndrome but with a missionary bent; some Hexbear users believe these lemmy dipshits represent an accurate sample size of the general populace (when literally the opposite is true) and so see value in trying to proselytize to what is in reality a gaggle of several hundred reddit incels whose pedophilia and racism made them unpopular even on reddit proper

And another cohort of Hexbear users are just suffering from a sunk cost mentality concerning federation (or more accurately, its predictable failure) and see value in acting like some spurned lover "I can fix them", it's all born from the same meme that infected Hexbear three years ago, where so many convinced themselves that these "people" who crawled over here from reddit are somehow worthy of our attention and engagement, the straight-up delusion that these nazis are normies

Like I've said before, if these cockroaches are worthy of whole threads and cross-instance engagement, then let's go invite some modern 4channers over for a brawl and seal the deal

Tbh a lot of it is, is because its the only distraction I have right now. Dunking on libs, shouting at the germans what I want to shout at them irl is a quick dopamine hit before I look at everything that needs to be done (as in right-now and within the area within arms reach, I can't even begin with the long-term).

One good aspect of it is that I can hear every counter-argument liberals come up with. These redditors are very cerebral if nothing else. They still want a cohesive world-view like we all do and they seek it in the media circus who they believe blindly like almost everyone here (here as in here in germany-cool). But then they need to make sense of all these contradictions, "Ukraine good but nazis there, hmm how does that work??"^[and the end-result is just pure gibberish https://lemmy.ml/post/44625171/24659774] and you can see the kind of stuff that comes out when they need to twist and bend facts, which anecdotes they seek refuge in.

Seeing where all of this will end I then talk to some people on the playground, my family, wherever and they are way less misinformed, they aren't that far ahead in the centrist radicalisation. And I have seen everything they come up with already. I have read what comrades came up with and use it. As someone who isn't very articulate about stuff (unless I'm explaining maths) this is really cool because I already know what to say. But I'm not gonna lie that this is the main reason, the main reason is I have ADHD and need a break from reality fairly often.

I sort of enjoy seeing how we're talked about

I use it as an informal way to see if leftist views are gaining or losing in influence on Lemmy. When reactionaries are even more scratched, it tends to coincide with greater leftist influence.

I use it as an informal way to see if leftist views are gaining or losing in influence

Using lemmy to gauge public sentiment is begging for false positives and incorrect perceptions; normal people do not use this site, lemmy is a highly maladjusted sink for reddit cranks and idiosyncratic Nazis, a bargain bin 4chan without even the numbers necessary to survey the incel population of the internet

To properly gauge leftist influence sites like TikTok are the only reliable userbase that can represent an accurate cross-section of the general population

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I meant purely on Lemmy, to be clear. Not abroad.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 5 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

But what's the value in doing that? That's like counting cracks on a prison wall

[–] Moidialectica@hexbear.net 4 points 4 hours ago

We use it actively, and Cowbee also is active in agitprop and educating people within other Lemmy instances, I think these two are reason enough at least for them

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 13 points 11 hours ago

Pure passive curiosity, I don't actively seek it out.

Are we really doing this again

idk not every post on here can be an S+. some are just C-tier. seeing lemmitors whine about the tankie troika fills in the gaps between truly unique, truly funny slop.
