I think it's less that 30 is old and more that that is about the age your start to realize the age difference.
You can live most of your twenties and still feel somewhat connected to people plus or minus 5 years. However when you hit 30 you start to have more in common with people who are 40 than people who are 20.
That said I didn't really have this experience until I was in my late 30s and the little track suit crews with their broccoli cuts showed up. I'm just a late bloomer I guess.
I went to college in my mid-twenties and all my peers thought I was a geezer.
Damn, I don't feel closer to 20 or 40, I feel like I'm in the twilight zone
