That one's tough because it might be true, but he is also mentally ill. So things with him are...confused/confusing.
(Please note that I'm not saying we should not take him seriously.)
I'm sure this isn't your intention but as a reminder please don't use mental illness as a reason to disregard or disrespect. I may have hallucinated once or twice, but it was my wife walking out of my shoe to tell me I was hallucinating so stop playing video games and go to bed. (funny thing we weren't even dating back then, but how do you tell the cute girl in the backup band you have a crush on that you saw her across town when you got your wisdom teeth pulled and yeah you know she was somewhere else. That's second date conversation.)
My point is that most of us mentally ill folk have a firm grip on reality even though we may not have a firm grip on sanity
