Something by Mahler to counter the trope of Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries. Maybe the opening to his 9th Symphony.
I feel that more for the return flight , sun is going down shining on the Persian Gulf and the Camera is still with the jet slowly flying towards the mountains .. A long still then the credits roll..
It's that first six minutes of the first movement. The slow rumble of the jet engines as others join with each instrument, at 3 minutes they're approaching the base, and then at 5 minutes the bombing starts. At 5:38 the biggest one explodes with the cymbal clash. It's a nice mix between a militaristic and a flowery composition.
