In void of an actual personality the empire itself becomes the personality. This is the height of the identity crisis that capitalism fuels; the annihilation of the individual and the community at the same time, leaving people aimless and isolated. They have no group to look toward and nothing internal to analyze. They become shells, empty husks, worker drones. They adopt the empire as their child and strive to protect it with a parental love. They have nothing else. Capitalism robbed them of community, broke up and scattered their family, and has even withered away their sense of self. There is only the country now.
