~~Slop is meant to be for posts from random internet users or other lemmy instances, not posts from people with actual influence over a significant number of people~~.

Haha I'm not good at this. I thought pop culture was the comm that was created at the same time as slop but that was gossip.

Seems gossip got merged.

Oop

original posthttps://hexbear.net/c/popularculture

Use /c/popularculture for Hasan or contra or whatever. If the mods there say no contra then that's the way it is i guess.

I haven't consulted anyone about this so if a more senior mod wants to contradict me i get it.

Agree or disagree in the comments I'm pretty easy to influence so argue if you want

This really feeds into my theory that despite how much I love it, Hexbear is probably the online community I've ever been in where people get the most fucking pissy about seeing content they don't like. This is like the 6th time in my tenure here I've seen people demand that content be segregated into increasingly niche sub-sub-sub-sub-comms because god fucking forbid you ever see a thread with shit in it you're not interested in.

This attitude exits on reddit-logo as well but we take it to an extreme. It's like if there was a reddit sub for posting sailing ships and someone posted a Schooner and a bunch of users who preferred Clippers started demanding the sub be split into r/Schooner and r/Clipper.

Whom among us (amogus) could ever forget the /c/Trireme vs. /c/Penteconter struggle session of 2024

I really, truly, honestly, thought it was supposed to go in a different comm.

I presume you're also taking about the community at large but i would like to reiterate that fact

I think it is because Hexbear is used by many of its users as a refuge away from the bullshit on the rest of the internet, so they don't want to see that stuff on hexbear. I'm not sure, I'm not too bothered by any of the slop type comms, and when one is really annoying to me (like fakenews) then I just block it. I would assume anyone who is frustrated by slop content has probably already blocked the comm though, and is more annoyed when non-slop comms have slop in them.

But if that's the case, why are they on c/slop which is explicitly made for shitting on the rest of internet?
