I gComhaontú Aoine an Chéasta sa ré réamhshruthaithe i 1998, foráladh go ndéanfaí iarracht srianta a dhéanfadh díspreagadh nó a bheadh ina chonstaic ar chothú agus ar fhorbairt na teanga a bhaint ar shiúl. Foráladh freisin go n-oibreodh Rialtas na Breataine chun teacht ar sheirbhís ar Theilifís na Gaeilge (mar a bhí, TG4 anois) ó thuaidh.
