Hi, I’m Dave American, and I’m running for President.

[–] charokol@piefed.social 48 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That would be enough for some voters

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I'd at least want to hear his policies regarding cheeseburgers first.

[–] ThrowawayPermanente@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We're going to put a cheeseburger in every tummy, and deport all the vegetarians

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, I don't agree with everything he says, but I do love a cheeseburger.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

He said he's going to genocide my friends and neighbors but he also said he'd lower the price of cheeseburgers, so...

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago

Hi, I'm David - the cheeseburger - American, and I'm here to smash patties!

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 4 points 1 month ago

you have my vote, and I am Jason Australian

[–] justdaveisfine@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Is it fine if I just call you Dave?

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

"Mr. America" is fine.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We could've had a president McGovern though

[–] msfroh@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

The whole "Boaty McBoatface" thing is just a way of conditioning us for the next time someone named McGovern wants to run for leadership.

There is Anatole De France.I like his well known quote.

"The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread."

I have to nitpick here. De Gaulle seems to come from flamish "De Walle" meaning "The Walls", which seems to have been mutated to " De Gaulle".

So, he is a colossal titan in geopolitics, then.

Like British comedienne Dawn French. The name doesn't necessarily mandate where they live.

[–] Fetus@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Exactly. I'm Australian, even though my name is Billy Congo Free State.

The most famous porn star in the Netherlands is called Kim Holland. Might not be her real name, but her fame shows a name can really help you get people to like you.

[–] jmsy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

It'd be like if Johnny America was running for US president

And it isn't even a crazily rare surname! We also have plenty of these:

  • Tóth, which used to mean Slavic, Slovakian or Slovenian (today: 'tót')

  • Horváth, which means Croatian (today: 'horvát');

  • Németh, which means German (today: 'német')

  • Szerb, which means Serbian; Rác, which used to mean Serbian

  • Bolgár, which means Bulgarian

  • Lengyel, which means Polish

There might be more, but these 6 came from the top of my head.

UPDATE:

  • Török, which means Turkish

  • Cseh, which means Czech
