Apollo 1:

Fire, I smell fire. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Roger Chaffee (presumed)

Outlook malfunctioning is extremely tame compared to the issues the early space program ran in to. Somehow this meme really rubs me the wrong way.

Comparing one of the worst disasters in NASA history to Micro$lop bugs is a bit silly, no?

i saw the Challenger shuttle explode in person… my elementary school used to have a recess to watch the shuttles every time they launched.
however, the idea of Windows in space is terrifying.

the idea of windows in space is terrifying.

Why would I need to watch a vast nothingness? Space windows scare me.

So is comparing a Microsoft bug to the highlight of the Apollo project and conveniently ignoring all the setbacks that both led up to and followed it.

I don't mind bashing Microsoft where warranted, but this just feels like cherry picking from a long list of technical and procedural failures.

It's a meme posted to a shitposting community lol

Is that what the point of the meme was? You can read it as being about how much lower the stakes are, too.

I mean the whole outlook thing wasn't even on nasa devices they were personal devices...so the meme is just beating a dead horse of a joke that proves the ignorance of the person sharing it lol.

You've misunderstandood what a PCD is. They are mission devices, assigned by NASA, used to access mission data and communications. They are called "personal" because they are assigned to specific astronauts rather than shared equipment. They didn't bring their own laptops from home. That's why they were receiving tech support from NASA to address Micro$lop's buggy software.

Kind of ironic to be speaking about ignorance.
