actually

You're confusing contrapoints/Natalie wynn for philosophy tube/Abigail Thorn. She's the transgender breadtuber with a panache for the theatrics that got parts in BG3 and gambo. Tbf I don't think Abigail is nearly as much a shitty person as Natalie but I don't follow her that closely. She's atleast less on Twitter

[–] Biggay@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (4 children)

abby is dope and her content has always been better and is much more timeless than most or all of contrapoints'. Ive gone back to philosophytube/abby but i havent really felt the need to rewatch or reconsider kkkontra.

[–] WideningGyro@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Just want to point out that Abby participated in the "before talking about Gaza, it's super important to talk at length about the rise of antisemitic violence"-cliché in a (semi) recent video. I don't generally watch her content, so maybe it's an exception to otherwise good takes, but that one left a sour taste in my mouth.

Fuck every Breadtuber, I hate what they've done to the internet, they keep breeding liberals

[–] Leegh@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Breadtube is the epitome of the idea that the revolution itself will be commodified. The entire privately-owned social media sphere is Capitalist Realism for the post-Cold War digital space. And many Western leftists unfortunately still don’t realize this.

They've done nothing of note, except shutting up a couple of fashy youtubers (while IRL fascism quintupled in size)

You will pry my skullboi from my cold, dead hands

[–] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

Never watched Shaun, but he's a good lad

[–] demeritum@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If she said something more radical, her acting career would be dead. Unlike kontra she knew where the wind blew though.

[–] Gosplan14_the_Third@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah right, as if people are ever more radical than they claim to be when talking politics, unless they're being intentionally dishonest.

[–] demeritum@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 days ago

Oh no, I do think she doesnt particularly cares about Palestinians being alive, she just knew her audience.

[–] Sneakytrickyyy@hexbear.net 8 points 2 days ago

Find greener pastures, why punish yourself with this meandering yapping? Abby isn't much better than Contra, just a bit, deminishing returns situation

Alexander Avila is pretty great too

Well he's got like two absolute clown takes but is otherwise good and might've learned something since then

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 10 points 2 days ago

I saw like two videos from Avila and he just seemed like such a wannabe French cafe type intellectual with no inclination to do substantive leftist analysis. That was a few years ago, but usually these internet "intellectuals" become worse as they become more successful on Youtube rather than better (or at best stay the same), so I hope I can be forgiven for not checking recent work.

[–] fannin@hexbear.net 2 points 2 days ago

Dunno about you but I wouldn't hype a person who both sides the gaza genocide and amplified the fake "rising antisemitism" crisis. Turns out you can make a lot of things antisemetic if you define jewishness as genocidal.

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Pretty sure Abby is a Zionist

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Pretty sure

Did you do sufficient investigation to earn the right to speak about this?

Because I did some searches on her Tumblr for "Palestine" and "Gaza" and that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Whatever one might think about the specifics of Abigail's public stances on Palestine (specifics muddied by the fact that the United KKKingdom essentially has no freedom of speech), I don't think Zionists usually raise money for World Central Kitchen, or publically say "Free Palestine".

At any rate, even across those two Tumblr posts, she's still done infinitely more than Contrapoints and her nihilistic nonsense tweet on the subject.

[–] TheBroodian@hexbear.net 0 points 1 day ago

It's an inference based on her silence on Palestine. There is no fence sitting with a genocide.

Tapping the sign of me tapping the sign, since Abby's come up a few times recently:

Reposting my comment about her doing a nazi propaganda

idk where to rate it on scale of breadtuber blunders but Abby's definitely not flawless, to say the least

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

but Abby's definitely not flawless, to say the least

Good thing I never said that

[–] Frivolous_Beatnik@hexbear.net 1 points 2 days ago

Didn't mean to imply that, apologies. More of a general statement

[–] 30_to_50_Feral_PAWGs@hexbear.net 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

spoilerAbby is Natalie's ex

Also a little bit of a lib, but nowhere near as bad as most of BreadTube turned out to be.

[–] larrikin99@hexbear.net 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

at what point did they ever live in the same city?

[–] GnomeGodsGnomeMasters@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It is possible to be in a relationship with someone and not live in the same city.

[–] larrikin99@hexbear.net -2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Thank you for the nuance. I will restate my question to remove presumptions about geographical distance: What was the nature of their physical relationship?

[–] SpookyBogMonster@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 days ago

What was the nature of their physical relationship?

That....doesn't sound like any of our business

[–] purpleworm@hexbear.net 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I feel like you mean "physical relationship" as in "the relationship of two entities in the material world" or something, but it really reads like you're asking if they were fucking.

[–] Kopfrkingl@hexbear.net 5 points 2 days ago

The type of wording I use with someone I'm not close with but has some exciting gossip
