either unwilling or unable to implement

That's the problem his attorneys general face. He asks them to do the impossible and they have to say no and get fired, or they say yes then fail to do the impossible and get fired.

It doesn't help that a lot of the attorneys who haven't already quit are hacks and con-artists. Jean Perino sucks at her job. Pam Bondi sucks at her job. These are not the heavy hitters that the Bush Family or the Reagan Administration was able to field during prior conservative administrations.

One of the consequences of the stacked deck of Circuit Court Federalist Judges has been a huge drop off in the quality of conservative attorneys. Why do I need to be good at my job when I can simply show up, fart loudly, and get handed a rubber-stamp by my friends on the bench? But then you hit the Appellate Courts, where the deck isn't as heavily tilted, and judges aren't as receptive to the amateur hour bullshit Trump's team rolls out.

Even Anne Coulter and Brett Kavanaugh were, at the end of the day, decent professionals at their jobs. Awful scum sucking humans, but capable enough to string a few well-researched words together to sway a jury pool. Trump's DAs are all just influencers doing TikTok dances for an audience that isn't in the court room.

There's a perverse sort of hope in that idea of fascist brain drain. Maybe it's like dysentery, if you shit long enough and don't die, eventually you get better? I don't know, but the thought of it makes me smile.

It waxes and wanes. I don't think the current environment drains out the fascism nearly so much as the Good Times Make Smug Men. These fucks will still be here when the tide turns. There's no world where fascists just stop existing after an election cycle or even a string of social and political defeats.

But we're well past the Cold War era of military psychos and reactionary intellectuals trying to peal the median American off New Deal economic policies and Civil Rights movements. The folks running the show now are the scions of generation of fascists that already won. So they're focuses far more on jerking one another off (in the case of Epstein and his peers, literally) than actually confronting opposition political movements.

Doesn't help that modern liberals have also all gone lazy and fat on the post-Cold War boom. We're definitely on the back end of this round of Empire Building.
