What other Wayland tilers have you tried? Niri, Sway, and River are all established and have become stable. I've heard good things about DWL too, but it's not something I've tried.
I'm using Sway, and just find myself not caring for it. Niri is super cool, but just not the solution for this particular laptop. The laptop in question is my daily driver and productivity rig, and I prefer it to be a super minimal experience.
DWL might be the choice then. It's a Wayland take on DWM, so minimal as can be.
I'll give it a shot this weekend, thank you.
