Are you kidding? This is what they look for

On the first day of Basic, when they ask your platoon if you know why you joined, being the first one to answer correctly when asked: "To Kill People" gets you asked what MOS you signed-up for, and you had better have a good excuse for giving that answer(I did my research, full stop). They do NOT want that level of self-awareness in a fresh recruit, not one they'll send to the front lines in a Combat Arms roll anyways.

They have no problem making trained killers out of anyone who doesn't give-up or attack them( I mean like, normies; Yes, they can make a killer out of you and likely any of the nicest people you've ever met - With very few exceptions, even among vegans, pacifists, ascetics, what-have-you, humans are predators at the end of the day ). Restraining the overly enthusiastic is another matter entirely, so no, its not what they look out for or approach with anything but wariness, bordering on paranoia.

I mean... volunteering for military service has a certain crazy aspect to it at any time... but you'd be surprised at how many fail to ever become recruits because of their record or general unfitness for service.

it's easy to assume you 'want a bunch of killers' but really what you want are people who are predictable enough to trust with rifles, crew served weapons and ord.
