Except he's still working late as a result

And fucking over the rest of the team by helping to perpetuate unreasonable expectations.

The correct response to too much work to accomplish in the time alotted isn't to burn your personal time, it's to communicate early and often with higher ups about the issues with the timeline, then let it fail.

That's a different argument. If it requires a team effort, you get it done and hand it over. You and the team should also have an understanding that you'll get it done and with enough time, but only hand it in when there is little time left. This helps reduce employer expectation and helps prevent burnout. Malicious compliance. Remember who has the real power in the employer/employee relationship

Depends if he got all the other shit he needs to get done in his life during work time too which he no doubt did. This is the sensible approach.

Of course there are the cooked cunts who are just slow and inefficient and drag everyone down - I had one as my boss previously and it was painful. To the point of dragging my work down because of his slowness. That's not on. There's a big difference between "slow and inefficient" and "purposely slow and seemingly inefficient" .

Don't work yourself to death for companies.
