In my little project worldbuild, elves have 4 sexes (possibly six, a topic of intense scholarly debate).
Dwarves reproduce by carving a sculpture and imbuing it with a portion of their soul. It's usually a collaborative effort, with most dwarves having three to five parents (though it's not unheard of to have only one parent, and royalty often have hundreds). They generally mimic human sex characteristics, but it's up to the sculptors and most dwarves don't see it as crucial to their identity
I haven't quite worked out orcs yet, but I'm leaning toward them living in eusocial tribes, largely inspired by naked mole rats
Orcs should reproduce asexually by releasing spores via their blood. So the more orcs fight (and the more orc blood is spilled) the more orcs will sprout from the ground.
Isn't that basically how 40k Orcs do it?
Yeah, I should have given credit to Warhammer in my comment
That's a really cool concept! But one of my design choices was to stick to D&D5e-compatible races in case I want to run a campaign in-world
So I needed in-world reasons why orcs and elves could hybridize with humans, but the other races couldn't. For example, a human could participate in the creation of a dwarf, and it would contain part of their soul and be as much their child as its other parents', but the result wouldn't be a half-dwarf, it'd just be a dwarf =)
I enjoy all of this world building. Proceed.
