Same, it's not an easy process unfortunately. Turns out HK is doable to get a residence though.

Hong Kong permanent residents can apply for the Mainland Travel Permit, allowing them to travel freely to Mainland China without needing additional visas.

Holders of the permit can stay in Mainland China indefinitely for various purposes, including work and study.

In theory if you get HK residence you can then apply for the travel permit and simply move to Shenzhen or Guangzhou (easier to find job due to proximity) or wherever if you can find someone hiring.
