I mean if it’s in Utah it’s the equivalent of 5 regular beers.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 3 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

They actually served real beer on the mountain the last time I was there.

Also, above 6000 feet or so the effects of alcohol are almost 2x, and utah has many peaks in the 8000-10,000 range, which is why it's important to always drink on the lift.

An entire state making laws based on imaginary sky daddy. Fucking crazy shit.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 hours ago

Friendly reminder that the Mormons tried to claim as far as fucking LA and San Bernardino. Their state containment zone was narrowed down till it got to the point where the army could theoretically exterminate them if need be.

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 1 points 4 hours ago

Sadly most of the world is still making laws around imaginary sky daddy, hopefully younger generations move away from this sillyness and learn to think for themselves

Same sky daddy as all the bank holidays, private school charter programs, on the money and in the pledge of allegiance, trusted to enforce truth in a courtroom, anti-gay laws of all stripes, all this nonsense, and uncountable other ways in which Christian supremacy is the presumed default in western (and especially American) culture.

Just pointing out that the crazy shit is regrettably not confined to one state's laws.

Waterville Valley is in NH, and that sled is full of Lawson's, made in VT and some of the best beer in the Northeast.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

TIL. I’ll keep an eye out next time I’m in the area.

Isn't that because Utah has weird laws about how many drinks you're allowed to order? I seem to remember hearing that bar patrons are only allowed to get one drink at a time, so bars just started getting bigger mugs.

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

They also have hard limits on APV of drinks. I forget what it is but it’s something low like 4%. I don’t go there much but my friend is a ski fanatic and regularly makes trips out there.

[–] Impound4017@sh.itjust.works 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

It’s 5% ABV that’s the limit for most grocery/convenience stores, with higher content being available at liquor stores and licensed establishments (like bars). I always bring my own alcohol if I’m skiing, so idk which category a resort would fall under.

It used to be limited to 4% ABV for beers outside liquor stores, but they changed that a few years ago when beer producers decided they didn’t wanna make a special kind for Utah anymore and threatened to just leave the Utah market outright.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 hours ago

I would imagine they serve wine too. (I would hope hard liquor too but maybe not?)

In some states like CA, you have either a beer and wine license, or the full liquor license, for places where you are being served (as opposed to a store where you are buying and drinking off site.) Even in Utah I can’t imagine the ski resorts only serve beer and not wine. But maybe?

Also I thought all the Mormons for high on ultra high sugar content sodas?

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

A lot of states have weird laws like this. Connecticut also doesn't allow you to have more than one drink at a time (at least last I knew) so if you and your friends order a shot and a beer they pour the round of shots, wait until you've all finished them, then give you the beers.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 1 points 8 hours ago

No chaser for your shot. That’s a good way to get people vomiting.

Also with a beer on the side, you could drink the shot more slowly. Dumb policy.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 3 points 11 hours ago

CT did away with that a long time ago afaik. Grew up there, never had that happen to me but my father remembers that. They could also go to the bars at 18...
