There is a fan theory that the reason you play as a child in the game is because many of the adults in the world of Pokémon have died due to war. It’s also a theory that tries to explain why you see so many child-age characters too.
That's really interesting, thank you (or not!!) for the rabbit hole!
Heck look at the story of bw/bw2, it was a literal warning of whats happening in the usa today.
