American is not better. Anybody remember Edward Snowden? I'm sure it's only gotten worse since then.

The US is far, far more of a threat than China even remotely is. That being said, I highly doubt the GOS devs would even consider any collaboration if a backdoor was ever a possibility.

The possibility of backdoors is unavoidable, and it's part of their threat model. It's why the mobile baseband is isolated, for example.

If you're American*

or any global north country, honestly, especially in the five eyes

there’s not much one could do to anger the chinese government enough for them to risk sending agents to kidnap or kill a westerner

all the US needs is a request to law enforcement

I dunno what that means. US doesn't have jurisdiction outside the US, just like China doesn't have jurisdiction outside of China, so not a whole lot they can do to you. I have heard of Chinese kidnapping their own people who fled to the US, but I'm not sure how true that is.

In the US, yes. Not even that, really.

China having police stations in the europe for example is a bit much to me.

Oh yeah, to be clear I was just clarifying the structure. I don't consider American companies to be any more trustworthy than companies based elsewhere.
