i was slightly unfair in another comment, they did print that ishchenko (ishenko?) social science guy with much more nuanced take on the ukraine internal cleavages (re:russian/prole ukrainian/tech worker associations and older/younger people) and stuff, i dunno why they don't have a modicum of editorial tone, pick a lane

Volodymyr Ishchenko? I remember him as generally having a pretty good take, but avoiding the most sensitive issues.

yes. why everyone is named volodymyr, smh. i think he has a fine depressive sociologist take. i legit can't parse leftist people not seeing giant nazi shaped hole around which ukrainian nationalism is rotating (the azov guy is polling at 40% approval ffs), it's fine to doubt russian motives around it, i doubt them too, it's not fine, however, to deny it or obfuscate it for nominal leftist publication, it's like taking mussolini at his words about smashing the capitalist state, supreme unseriousness

Volodymyr/Vladimir is literally the same name in Ukrainian and Russian pronunciation. And it is one of the most popular names too.
