Israeli Olympic officials have disqualified their own bobsleigh team from participating in the final day of competition at the Milan 2026 Winter Olympics after one of its athletes falsely claimed illness

They didn't disqualify themselves. The IOC disqualified them

I think the IOC is the Israeli government oversight.

They seem to be mad that the Israeli team tried to let their Druze reservist participate.

My understanding is they got caught trying to pretend one of the team was unwell so they could swap a team member. They got caught and "disqualified" themselves. Either way they tried cheating and "withdrew" before being disqualified

The Olympic Committee of Israel disqualified them, not the International Olympic Comittee.
