the further left we go the better
I have extremely banal views on this subject, so I apologize if it's not what you're looking for, but I just believe in democratic republics that have many further measures in place to prevent the circumstances that we currently see. Recall elections, income restrictions that extend for the rest of your life, etc.
The government should be more involved and we should have binding referenda for some major issues, but just having random people take office is basically giving up on the issue of how to have a democracy. We need to have representatives for simple structural reasons because we should be coordinating at a larger scale (i.e. all of humanity) rather than a smaller one, we just need to make it so they can't use the office to get wealthy and are always subject to removal if their constituents are unsatisfied with their work. If anything, someone with a high office should have fewer rights in total rather than more, because it shouldn't be something people go after for the sake of standing above the law as they currently do.
Very well said and I appreciate you sharing your perspective
