For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

“Buying a car today is an investment into the future. I think the most profound thing is that if you buy a Tesla today, I believe you are buying an appreciating asset – not a depreciating asset.” – Elon Musk, 2019

LOL that quote aged like milk (or worse, like a Model S)

Exactly as could be expected when Elon Musk claimed it was stupid to buy any other car than a Tesla, because Tesla would retain their value better than any other brand because he claimed they were the only car that was future proof, and then added they might even increase in value!!

But anybody who isn't part of his cult should know by now that Elon Musk is a con man, and he always lies, it's funny how his lies look like Trump lies in their absolute disregard for reality.

To be fair though, I bought a 4 year old VW ID.4 Tech, for 28k EUR, price from new is around 61k EUR, a depreciation of 54%.
But 2 factors are at play in EU that aren't in USA, the Euro has been stable and has increased 15% against the US Dollar, and we have had the arrival of competition from China, which has pressed prices for the entire market.
For the market in Denmark a third factor is that the climate is vary hard on cars, especially with salted roads during winter.
This decreases the average lifespan of cars, even with good maintenance and expensive rust protection. Maybe making a 4 year car in Denmark drop as much in price as a 6 year car in USA a somewhat qualified guess from 30+ years of experience as a car owner in Denmark.

In USA Tesla is strongly protected from outside competition, and if the price in USD is half in 4 years, the depreciation in Euro is more like 58%.
