I have a Google Pixel 7 right now and I think I'll want to upgrade to the 8 when it releases. I checked current trade in prices and they're honestly underwhelming. CA$265 for a phone I bought 10 months ago?

I've seen people get upgrades for $150, so what's the secret? Is there a period where trade in prices increase?

This is a stupid adage for when to buy a new phone. OP is specifically asking if seasonally there is a better time of year to upgrade. Nobody gives a shit about your Pixel 5.

fair point, but my point was he should upgrade when he wants/needs to. trying to time the market is silly given that the resale value of phones other than iPhones is crap.

Apparently he wants to upgrade I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

the point im making is that the right time to upgrade is when he wants to and it makes sense. He wants the new features in the 8, and wants the native experience so best time to buy and sell depends on availability and if he has a backup phone.
