Supporting Ukraine is not just a money thing, it is a moral obligation. The USA has morally made the wrong decision in giving up on Ukraine, as the many US American volunteers inside of Ukraine will tell you. Instead, the USA has, through Trump, decided to side with Putin (perhaps even a video recording of Trump having sex in a Moscow hotel plays a role in this) this is despicable; Putin is an evil dictator. Taken together, US Americans, this is hard to forgive, you are now on the wrong side of history. In addition, this war impacts the USA directly, you can try to be protectionist and isolationist as much as you want, as two world wars have shown, not confronting dictators never works.

We (US) might have a dictator. Are you going to help us when that time comes?

Sure, for instance the EU is already taking up refugees.

Ah, so anyone with a phd in a high-value field and a binder full of accolades is able to apply for competitive grants.

But they still haven't opened the gates to ordinary americans seeking refugee status, have they?

More than obvious that they'd rather allow Ukrainians than rednecks in.

I don't blame them, but rednecks aren't the ones trying to flee the US. Lots of vulnerable people don't have a high level of specialized education.

What about folks whose european descent is outside the window for citizenship? My german ancestors were like five generations back...

My comment didn’t mean I want to help US Americans. You should stay home and fix the problem.
