This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

I’ve been saying this since the late 90s.

Funny, that's the same time I figured out that USA as a society is mentally ill. And is a society that normalize abuse, oppression and violence.
This became clear to me a bit after the 3 strikes laws were introduced in California in 1994, California doing this and being considered among the more moderate states, was a HUGE warning sign. Also paramilitary police, stand your ground. The rhetoric describing everything as a war, the use of food-stamps instead of financial aid and on and on.

the evidence of it is in the hundreds of general examples of how USA is a sociopathic society, and now we have Trump to make so blatantly absolutely clear, that even Americans that used to be Desensitized because of the constant exposure are beginning to see it.
This is far from an anecdotal problem, that can be solved by the next election, it permeates society, and has roots in the idolization of freedom (without specifying what it actually means) and greed and money. All personified perfectly in Trump.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, (worse than a psychopath or sociopath), but the extreme idolizing of freedom and money has turned the evils of Trump into virtues.
Many Americans admire Trump for having absolutely no conscience as they see it as an expression of the ultimate freedom, and they admire his corruption and criminal behavior, because he makes money on it.

On top of that we have the religious insanity, which Trump is also a part of, for instance believing prosperity gospel, which is an absolute bullshit con. But Trump has those crazies too.

Trump is a picture of the state of American society, and normal people must be living in political hell in USA right now.

Yes, I have said before but the worst thing about Trump being the president of the US is not that it makes no sense - it's that it makes perfect sense.

Yes, that is true, that is the worst thing about it. Because even if Democrats win the next election, it's only a matter of time for the pendulum to swing towards crazy again, because it's part of how the American society thinks.

I mean.....is democrats taking control really that much better? It's not like some return to decency.

Think of evil as a line graph. When republicans are in control the line goes up.

When democrats are in control the line flatlines as a plateau, but it doesn't go down. The line only rises with republicans. Then it stays in a holding pattern with democrats.

People refuse to believe me when I say it's both sides. They're working together. If the democrats were so upset by ICE, and Trump, and fascism, they would be staging some kind of resistance. A protest. SOMETHING!

Instead, the republicans message is basically "fuck you, I win" and the democrats message is "hold on everybody, lets hear them out."

The democrats exist because the republicans need the illusion of choice, but don't want any actual consequences or challenge to their plans.

So no. The pendulum doesn't swing "back" to crazies. It never leaves that territory. It only cosplays as sane.

I agree, but it is not both sides equally, it is actually better when Democrats take control. For one they are better at balancing the budgets, where Republican gives tax cuts to the rich.
Problem in USA politically is that USA has a system that naturally divides into 2 ruling parties. And those 2 parties are both right wing. There is no room for nuance, and the binary system has resulted in the extreme becoming the norm.

That's by design. The Democrats are paid to stall progress, until a Republican can be installed to reverse it. The two party system works as designed.

TIL I'm "normal".

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Unfortunately normal is a minority in USA.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

That word "Unfortunately" is doing some pretty serious heavy lifting in that sentence.
