Sherman?
It's attributed to Hitler. But after just having looked into it, it seems dubious.
Was joking, thought you made it up. Said Sherman as a joke in regards to the scorched earth policy he used in the march to the sea of the American civil war
A little too poetic for Sherman anyway. "War is hell" was definitely one of his quotes though.
That've fooled anyone, it's an easy mistake to make
His actual quote is "WENN DU WIE DIE SONNE SCHEINEN WILLST, MUSST DU ZUERST WIE SIE BRENNEN"
and I think it's beautiful

I can't find a source for it, though. It's definitely not from Mein Kampf, as I went through all occurrences of Sonne and it's not there. There is one quote in there that says: "only once the sun went down can the moon shine", but that's quite different. I think it's just another misattributed quote.
