I don't know how rich they are, but this seems like an overspending thing more so than an issue of having too much money.

It could literally be a skill issue. They might be embarrassed to say they don't know how to cook shit. I know adult couples who cannot cook anything between them besides frozen pizza and microwaved instameals.
