Sorry, I changed the link pretty shortly to Ignatiev before you posted, so there was a possibility in my mind that you might not have gotten the right link.

I want you to reread the thread from a European and Asian perspective. See how racist + classist the meme reads.

Asians, including lighter-skin Asians, have been systematically excluded from whiteness. So I don't see how being Asian makes critique of whiteness any less important or valid.

And as Ignatiev says, the culture of whiteness is not even Irish, Nordic, Danish, Russian, etc. culture. In fact, in my view, whiteness replaces these organic cultures of white-skinned Europeans (warts and all) with a White monoculture. So if you care about the good parts of the various European cultural heritages, you should actually be against whiteness, because whiteness destroys culture.

And that is absolutely not what Ignatiev and other critiques of whiteness say or even imply.

And the middle "class" as it is used today is not a real class. It is a subset of the proletariat, specifically the more comfortable segment thereof. It is a capitalist framing meant to divide the proletariat.

So it is absolutely not classist to dunk on people who identify as middle class to use this identity to assert that they are better or more deserving than the rest of the proletariat.
