The United States military says it shot down an Iranian drone that approached a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, amid continued efforts by regional powers to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The Shahed-139 drone was shot down by an F-35C from the Lincoln, which CENTCOM said was sailing about 800km (500 miles) from Iran’s southern coast.

Apparently, the drone cost 20,000$. Meanwhile the fighter jet fuel, not to mention the missile, cost several millions of $. Whatever the reason, the cost to both sides wasn't considered for whatever reason. Either the carrier crew panicked, or they think they have reasons to believe it was worth the cost for other reasons. Maybe they are trying to provoke Iran.

It was a good trade for Iran for sure. Using an F35 anti air missile to shoot down a drone is bonkers. The Iranians broadcasted the drone's location on flightradar so the US should have known it was coming.
