Yeah I’m not convinced these kid fuckers were at all supernaturally inclined. Maybe to blackmail people? Like doing it for the photos?

They do engage in rituals. Aleister Crowley was a British Parliamentarian, spy, Golden Dawn member, and ritualist. He spent his money and sanity in persuit of the lifestyle, and some remember him fondly, others not so much.
