“Americans allow Don Lemon to be taken into custody”
Exactly this! Why were you not all camped out outside his house and accompanying him to the restroom?! You should be at every protest, and journalists home, and journalists work, and checks notes at their hotel while they're covering the Grammys, simultaneously or you're failing your country!
This is a bad take. You can't stop someone from being taken into police custody. It's a great way to get shot and accomplish nothing. This is the actual cops, not an ice raid.
cops are american too, tho
Yes but the statements agitators and those seeking to divide all of us who stand against Trump are always insisting "Americans" or many even say "All Americans".
These people are traitors to humanity. They stand with Trump's propaganda wing whether they like it or not.
We're just all appalled at seeing America slide into... whatever it's becoming with seemingly no resistance. It's very unsettling.
You know the guy was arrested while covering resistance, right?
I agree that it never should have been allowed to go this far, but there is resistance happening
It’s almost like getting to this point was avoidable
Anything is avoidable if you have the power to change it. WWI was avoidable. WWII was avoidable. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean I can actually do anything about them. Someone getting arrested under fascism? Predictable, but we cannot stop every arrest. We're already trying to stop the kidnapping of every day people. Swarming around someone who works for one of the biggest companies in the world is not as helpful in the grand scheme of things. He has a lawyer. Do you? How many people do you know have the resources for a lawyer. I'm not saying he'll be fine, but he's better off than the people being kidnapped by ice or bombed in Gaza. I'm glad no one threw away their life falling on the sword for this guy. People suggesting to do so have no idea what the situation on the ground is like, which makes sense because they're not actually here. Actual action requires people be alive and doing the action. Maybe this will give people like Ezra Klein some perspective on the role of reporters. I'm very sad this is where we're at, but this individual instance is a blip in the bigger picture and people are fighting on a national scale and it's working, which is why they are bothering to do this. If the protests weren't a problem they would be doing this.
Propaganda like what you're peddling is indeed rather unavoidable.
The people must rise against it. We can't control what the bots say, but the real humans can point out how stupid it is to use the fascist tactic of painting an entire embattled nation with the same brush as their oppressors.
Wait - we all agreed last Tuesday that Don Lemon's protection was YOUR job. Why'd you allow them to take him, Frobozz? Were you sleeping on the job, or did they pay you off?
I highly suspect the people trying to paint my entire country as complicit with Trump are paid agitators.
I just can't wrap my head around people being this stupid otherwise.
Or people who understand that what’s going on is a collective responsibility.
Neither can we. We told them to vote repeatedly, which is the easy way out, but they’ll never learn. He even gave them a trial run and they put him in again.
It’s a collective responsibility. The US is where it is because they refuse to do their national duty and vote. So yeah, this is on the country.
I'm Canadian. Am I responsible every time the police in Canada arrest people for breaking laws I disagree with?
I am also Canadian- and we are both responsible for ensuring we don’t get to that point. Americans are armed to the teeth and thus have fewer excuses, however.
So there are currently no laws you disagree with in Canada? You agree with every arrest police make and will otherwise stop them?
I just realized you’re doing the MAGA thing where you frame what’s happening in the US as a difference of opinion. We’re done here.
The fuck are you talking about? I know what's happening in America is fucked up. Check my comment history. I just think it's ridiculous to hold every American responsible for every arrest in the country. It would be like holding you or I responsible for every arrest in Canada. Some kid got arrested for underage drinking even though pretty much everyone does it? YOU allowed it to happen
Collective guilt, surely that's never been used by bad people for bad purposes.
