There is something to say about "attempting to draw in contemporary conflicts, is an abuse of the memory of the Holocaust and an insult to victims and survivors." I'm not talking to comparisons with what's happening in Gaza. I'm talking about liberals claiming a genocide was occurring in Xinjiang.
Of course the Holocaust Educational Trust has no interest in addressing the class conflict which was the root cause of the holocaust, but whether they want to say it or not, the reason this genocide happened was because it protected and expanded the power of capital. Rhetoric around a fake genocide in Xinjiang uses the memory of the holocaust towards the same end, to protect capital. To me, that's a tremendous insult to the victims of the holocaust.
The people wielding this rhetoric are so unserious about the memory of the holocaust and it's physical reality, which left Europe littered with its artifacts and even in the 1930s and 40s was well documented with photos and movies, they'll shamelessly tell you a 21st century holocaust happened in Xinjiang that left literally no physical evidence.
