And we're not funding Ukraine to the same levels so the Russia imperialists are killing them and stealing their land.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Okay? They’re still not funding Russia though. We shouldn’t support Russia’s genocide. Does this satisfy you?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

By not funding Ukraine we are though.

We're directly supporting it.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That is literally the opposite of what words mean. We are funding Ukraine’s defense, not supporting Russia. I don’t know how to make this any clearer.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And I don't know how to make my point any clearer that things have gotten worse for them since Trump got in.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They may have under Harris too. We’ll never know. Did she make any campaign promises about it?

Either way, it’s the same trolley problem; are you fine with supporting genocide in Gaza for the benefit of Ukraine?

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But Gaza hasn't gotten any better.

It was much much worse last year when they didn't allow aid in and tons of people were starving.

I’m not going to argue about severity, especially when the only side that even pretended to try to deescalate was Trump. Genocide is genocide. It’s a hard line for me; any amount is unacceptable.

I just can’t justify supporting a party that not only won’t denounce it, but actively funds and defends it. If the consequences for that mean that the people who voted for Kamala keep smugly implying that the instruments of imperialism being turned inward is somehow my fault then I guess I’ll just have to endure that relatively small indignity.

“This year has been difficult, given the scale of death and destruction in Gaza and given the civilian casualties and displacement in Lebanon, it is devastating. And as president, I will do everything in my power to end the war in Gaza, to bring home the hostages, end the suffering in Gaza, ensure Israel is secure, and ensure the Palestinian people can realise their right to dignity, freedom, security and self-determination,” Harris said to applause during a rally in East Lansing city of Michigan, home to 200,000 Arab Americans.

Harris says will end Gaza war in final election appeal to Arab Americans

If lip service is all you need I'm not sure how to continue this conversation.

Cuba is now heavily sanctioned again after the thaw started by Obama and partly continued by Biden but Trump is now restricting any fuel from going there which is problematic because that's how they generate a ton of power.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Claiming that lip service is all I need when quoting a single last minute statement from Kamala made as an effort to salvage her rapidly dying campaign from all the people refusing to vote for her over her support of genocide is extremely rich. That statement isn’t any different from crap the Biden admin happily shit out while dumping arms shipments on Israel’s doorstep. She’s married to a fucking Zionist.

You seem to be under the impression that things getting worse under Trump is somehow entirely independent from the actions of the people who ran the country in what was broadly the same direction before him, and then ran a complete joke of a campaign against him. So yeah I agree, at this point I don’t see how we can have a fruitful discussion.

You literally say here lip service is all you need.

You seem to be under the impression that things getting worse under Trump is somehow entirely independent from the actions of the people who ran the country in what you openly admit was largely the same direction before him

I have never once said that they were largely in the same direction.

I didn’t vote for Trump either. His “lip service” was an actual ceasefire that Israel predictably violated. Biden never even pretended that far, only ever providing actual lip service.

Sorry, I misinterpreted the fact that you didn’t address either of the initial points I made about Trump’s Gaza and Venezuelan foreign policy being a continuation of Biden’s as implicit agreement. I edited the original post to remove that, feel free to address the rest if you like.

[–] SatansMaggotyCumFart@piefed.world 0 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I think Trump has severely escalated things in Gaza and obviously in Venezuela but even if that’s true Harris told us she would do things differently and work towards peace.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Biden spent the entire war telling us how he was tirelessly working for peace. Why would his VP who spent her entire campaign anchoring herself down with Biden’s baggage only to set down this one suitcase at the last second be any different?

Trump also says he’s working toward peace. They’re all liars.

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Actions speak louder than words and if she actually believed what she weakly put out, then she would have attacked Biden for supporting the genocide until he backed down. She didn't care till she saw the polling numbers cause these evil bastards only care about power and never human lives.
